The handle wood is Queensland Maple after 6 coats of shellac. Still awaits a final buff to a higher shine.

Although named Queensland Maple, this wood is not a true maple (Acer genus), but is instead contained in the Rutaceae family, which also contains many genera and species in the citrus family.

5 tonne of hydraulic pressure to imprint the makers stamp onto the hardback. No distortion of the hardback which is great news.

Saw plate assembly seated within the handle. The numeral pencil marks on the saw bolts will be removed at the end of the saw build.

The next step will be to file the saw teeth. 12 tpi; 10* rake; 0 fleam .

At this early stage I have placed the stamp location at the forward 1/3 distance of exposed brass back. Feedback is welcome if you feel that should be changed to a more central location.

that exactly would have been my question. The stamp while looking excellent after having been sanded, looks a bit dislocated to my eye. For some reason I'd prefer an exactly centered position or, if being located out of center, then rather closer to the heel of the saw than to the toe. But that's just my taste, others may think different.

Hi Klaus. As a means of exploring all options on the placement of the makers stamp; do you see any concerns with the idea of stamping the brass back twice. The 1st at 1/3rd in from the toe, and the 2nd at 1/3rd in from the leading edge of the handle cheek..

do you mean the same stamp twice on the left side of the spine? No way, please don't overdo it this way. Less is more in many cases, specifically in this one.

Hi Klaus. The general feedback on where the stamp should be positioned has been quite varied. Some like it as is; Some want it more to the centre. Some want it 1/3 in from the cheek side. I dont mind its current position. More time to consider which way to go is needed.

The completed Queensland Myrtle backsaw.

I have also provided a photo of the previously made Black Walnut Backsaw with the stamp positioned more to the center of the hardback's length. (much better option)

(Unfortunately the clarity of brass back stamps did not show up well within both these photo's.)
