Anyone that can identify this bandsaw?

Hello from Finland, sorry I do not know any german. I hope it is OK if I write this in english. I have bought this old bandsaw with 600mm wheels. I thought maybe it was a swedish model but I am not sure anymore... It does look alot like many older german or italian models too. I am writing here hoping maybe someone recgonizes this. I cannot find any identifying marks on the machine.

After I got it home, had to remove upper wheel and enclosure (it was made of wood, do not think it is original, perhaps the saw did not come with any blade covers)

Wheel back on.

So that's what I got, the motor says VEB, I believe it is east german, may not be original. Anyone recognize this model? One thing I have noticed is how the fence has a groove machined in the cast iron table itself, most other saws use a different method.

Anyway thanks for any help

Hi Denis,

this part of the Forum is mainly focused on hand tools, so our experts on power tools might miss this thread.
The "other" part of the forum is names "Allgemeines Holzwerkerforum"

können die Admins diesen Thread ins allgemeine Forum verschieben?

best regards and good luck finding your answer.
Felix

Whoops, sorry I missed where I was posting it. Perhaps an administrator could move it as I believe you said.

Hello Dennis,

I can read VEM on the motor, and here's what I found:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/VEM_Sachsenwerk

As far as I can tell from their history, VEM may have only made the motor, not the bandsaw. I can't help with the saw, sorry.

Cheers, Wolfgang

Hi, yes the motor is a VEM, we are not sure it is the original motor or not, I have found some similar looking models when looking for east german band saws but no exact match.

Saw blade for sawing rock/tiles/etc.?

Terve!

Apologize, can't help with the saw identification - but just out of interest: the saw blade looks peculiar...is is for cutting tiles/rock or similar materials?

Grüße, Philipp

Many people have commented on the blade, I have no idea but I suppose it is a friction blade or something like that. It wore a groove in the rubber on the wheel though and I have no plans to keep using it. Ordered a new one from the UK recently.

Guude,

it is a "hartmetallbestreutes Sägeblatt", carbide strewn saw blade,
used for hard materials, as stones, concrete, foamed concrete....
