Kirchner Bandsaw *MIT BILD*
Kirchner Bandsaw *MIT BILD*
Hi all,
my name is Giuliano and I am Italian. Sorry if I am writing in English but, unfortunately, my German is really below zero.
As in the object, I recently acquired an old Kirchner bandsaw. It is in good conditions but needs of a good restoring job.
This bandsaw has 350 mm wheels, lacks of a motor and has been covered by an odd color paint.
Before I start my restoring job, I would like to acquire info about this model. May be someone could have the same bandsaw or images or an instruction booklet.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Many Regards
Giuliano

Re: Kirchner Bandsaw
Hi Giuliano!
Nice bandsaw! Seems to be quite old but in a relatively good condition even with a lacking motor. Getting a replacement motor should not be a big problem, ask a company selling electric motors. Consider a 3 phase motor if you have 3 phase electrical installation available. Think about 1 kW or a bit more. Consider a blade speed of about 30 m/min. Higher speed needs better blades.
By the way my Italian is worse too!
Regards
Rolf
Re: Kirchner Bandsaw
Thank you Rolf.
A blade speed of 20-25 m/s was just that I had in mind for this saw. It needs a pedestal for reaching the right table height and for holding the motor.
Unfortunately I have not a three-phase current, so I have to buy a mono-phase type motor.
Regards
Giuliano

Re: Kirchner Bandsaw
Hello Guiliano,
for a single phase motor it might be a good idea to have a little bit more power due to the fact that single phases motors produce less torque than a 3 phase motor of similar wattage.
As a hint only: My Kity 613 has a table height of 97 cm. About right for my body height of 183 cm.
Regards
Rolf
Re: Kirchner Bandsaw
Well Rolf,
Your advice for the table height is a good point....I'll do a pedistal so the table height can be about 100 cm, since I am 187 cm tall.
Surfing the net and searching for Kirchner & Co. Leipzig, I discovered they closed after the WWII, so I assume the bandsaw be pre-1945.
Ciao
Giuliano

Re: Kirchner Bandsaw
Thank you very much! Although my bandsaw is a later model (1930 ca.) the catalog of which you have provided the link contains many other useful info.
Grazie
