I appreciate the dialog here; thank you all for your interest... and your patience.

I have a problem about having to 'befriend' anyone with whom I wish to do business and I hate having to 'beg' for service. Without meaning to sound 'krass', but this smells of the inverted relationship to the term 'customer' that has developed in Europe over many years. The concept of having to 'beg' someone to take my money is difficult for me to understand.

Let me address some of the concerns raised...
Concerning transport... I have frequently seen our yellow friends from the Post delivering 'Sperrpakete'... even furniture from that source of good taste 'IKEA' (Idioten kaufen einfach Alles - me included).
Even UPS will send their beardless(!) drivers with packages 'Gewicht bis 70 kg - Maximale Abmessung (Länge plus Gurtumfang) beträgt 330 cm (for example 10 boards - each 20cm wide - by 2.5cm thick - by 240CM long), Maximale Länge 270 cm. As I see it UPS will charge €34.06 to ship a 70KG package within Germany. That is competitive, as this includes delivery to your door!

Concerning quality... now that is what it is really all about! The supplier who does not deliver his customers with the quality his customers order (and pay for) will not stay long in business.

I see this as a 'specialist' service that an existing lumber dealer may offer. It is not the service for the building contractor who wants 2.75CUM pine. It is for the person who wants quality wood for his (or her) hobby. Please search the WWW and look at the many US suppliers who have built up a good reputation with this service.
